Tromsø Ice Domes
The Ice Domes stand in Tamokdalen, a valley roughly an hour inland from Tromsø, well above the Arctic Circle. Everything is rebuilt from scratch each winter and allowed to melt in spring.
Construction is snow and ice throughout: vaulted corridors, carved rooms, an ice bar, and a small cinema. Sculptors work the walls each season, so the interior changes year to year rather than repeating.
Sleeping rooms are held near freezing. Guests use insulated sleeping bags on ice beds, with a heated service building nearby for washing and changing. The inland position matters — clearer skies than the coast, which is why aurora viewing is part of most stays.
This category holds a single entry on purpose. Genuine ice hotels are few, seasonal, and rebuilt annually; padding the list would misrepresent how rare they are.
